Laphroaig 25 Year Old Malt Whisky 2008 Bottling
Cask Strength - 2008 Edition
Matured in a combination of the finest Oloroso Sherry and American Oak Casks and bottled in 2008.
Remarkable things happen when the world's most individual malt matures for 25 years, in a combination of the finest Oloroso Sherry and American Oak Casks, and is bottled at cask strength. Crushed grapes and heather flowers with the distinctive peat tang in the background.
Those who have discovered our rugged, righly flavoured malt whisky will recognize the traditional burst of Islay peat that fills the palate but will also be delighted by the sherry and spicy apple sweetness.
With its aging in both sherry and oak casks, this Laphroaig 25 Year Old Cask Strength 2008 Edition is one of the most unique of our Laphroaig expressions. Savour its exceptional character while you can, as it will be difficult to find.
Official Laphroaig Tasting Notes
Colour - Burnished Yellow Gold.
Nose - At cask strength there is a rich, sweet aroma of crushed grapes and heather flowers but always in the background is the distinctive tang of peat with just a trace of pear drops. Adding a drop of water starts the release of the many different flavours starting with a slightly sweet sherry fruitiness that then develops into the smooth fruit ripeness of pears and red apples with a pleasant tang of new mown hay. Finally you progress into the gentle Laphroaig Islay peat tang.
Body - An immense multilayered complexity
Palate - At cask strength the sherry and spicy apple covers the peaty liquorice tang which then slowly fills the palate. With a touch of water the gentle softness of age comes through and then little by little all the other fruit, spice and peat flavours fill the mouth.
Finish - Very long and slightly dry with a nice peat finish.
