The Caol Ila Distillery, built in 1846 is situated near Port Askaig on the Isle of Islay. Steamers used to call twice a week to collect whisky from this remote site in a cove facing the Isle of Jura. Watter supplies for mashing came from Loch nam Ban although the sea provides water for condensing. Unusual for an Islay this Caol Ila single malt scotch whisky has a fresh aroma and a light yet well rounded flavour.
